Mark today as the day Curt fell in love with Ireland.
We had a brief time to walk around Killarney and do a bit of shopping. The entire rest of the day was spent on the Ring of Kerry.
The Ring of Kerry is just a gorgeous phenomenon of geography, but also a complete trip back in time. Some of the places we saw only got electricity in the last 50 years, and internet access less than 5 years ago. The people are charming and live the simple farmer life. Curt and I agreed that the peace we feel here confirms we are not "big city" people. IF I didn't know it rained 300 days a year here (not the day we were there!) I could almost consider living here.
There is just no possible way these pictures do it justice. This day was exactly why I believe that traveling to see places in person is far superior to looking at pictures.
Darren made sure to stop the coach several times along the way to stretch our legs and see some vistas. Some noteworthy stops included:
- the Irish Coffee - best I've ever tasted,
- the town of Sneem for ice cream,
- lunch in Watertown by the Atlantic Ocean where I went and touched the water so I can now say I have touched the Atlantic from both sides!
Dinner was at a small farm that is still operational after 500 years or something. They make moonshine which we got to taste. We got a short tour and met some goats and chickens. The food...well, foodies, just don't go to Ireland. There's a reason they aren't known for their culinary delights. LOL However, Irish Stew is hearty and does the job. S even tried the root vegetable soup and the lamb stew, so I was really impressed with her growth!
I'll come back to add some picture highlights later, but trying like crazy now to get the writing part done for this journal! https://link.shutterfly.com/Ire4x5i0Jrb
